Dogs (or in latin canis familiarus)

Alaskan Malamute
ever have that feeling that you're going no where?

To every one that I have bored to death already, I'm sorry and I hope to make it more interesting if I was more intelligent.
I want a dog. They are special animals. Nelson- I mean my friend Steph, has a corgi sheltie eskimo cross; his name is Quincy and he looks exactly like a fox. My other friend wants a rotti, everyone says that they're vicious, but to all of us that own one, we know better. I think.  Then my other friend is getting a golden retriever puppy. The most popular dog in the world is no dog at all, mutts mongrels or crossbreeds are the world's most popular dog. They are less likely to pick up hereditary deseases, passed down from generations. they also have a will to please and be loved in return. if you're looking for a pet, a really good site to check out is http://www.petfinder.org. Here you may be able to find a life-long companion.

If you've found a dog you like, click on adopt a cyber pet and perhaps you can find a dog that you would like to adopt.

The rottweiler. When most people see these dogs they thing of vicious, barbaric out-of-control animals; but these misunderstood canines can be very loving and affecionate. The rotti has to be trained and be accustomed to other dogs, this should happen at a young age. Occationally when a rottiweiler pants, it almost seems like he's smiling, and perhaps, he is.

Westies, short for west highland white terrier, are closly related to carin terriers. The only visible difference in the snow white coat they advertize. White is the only color the westie comes in. For show, a black nose is required. These friendly, affectionate dogs are sometimes stobborn, but provide a great family pet. However this dog is not good with a large group of children, the westie tends to get a little over exited and will tend to nip.

This picture is dedicated to Erin

The Japanese chin is a small but affecionate dog that wants to be with you at all times. The Chin never seems to grow up, it always seems to draw attention and never turns into a house hold tyrant. he is a delicate dog that is not a good pet to take part in a child's play; He'd rather be pampered and spoiled, and that's what he was bred for.

this picture is dedicated to whyley, Joe and darby

The Norwich Terrier is a small, energetic dog that is always full of fire. Once used for hunting foxes and badgers, he is now content just to lie on the couch. He is a close relitive of the Norfolk terrier that is more stout, and has folded ears; unlike the Norwich who has sharp, pricked ears.  His thick coat is easy to groom and is thorn proof. He is quite rare but will make a perfect household companion for a family or a single person.

staffie
staffordshire bull terrier

The Staffordshire bull terrier is a very unique dog with two split personalities; one, a very loving, affecionate animal towards it's family, strangers and even the vet. However when exposed to another dog or other animal it becomes overwhelmed by a desire to destroy. If there is a breed that will defend his house to the end, it's this one. This dog is for experienced owners only and ones that can match his intelligence.

"Sorry, I ran out of stuff to say, and that isn't a quote."- No one inparticular

Nova Scotia Duck tolling Retriever
Nova Scotia Duck tolling Retriever

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a highly intelligent playful dog. His job was to 'toll'; luring the ducks or geese in by playing and attracting attention. Because of his natural playfullness, he makes a great companion for children or any family.

borzoi
borzoi.jpg

At first glance, this dog has an aristicratic and exotic look. The borzoi was bred to hunt wolves and it still has kept that preditory instincts. In the house the borzoi is quiet and peaceful, but outside it can become a dangerous preditor; he will attack anything that he thinks is prey. But usually he is aloof and will ignore any human or dog. This dog is only for those who can manage his strenth and speed.

Old English Sheepdog
Old English Sheepdog

The Old English Sheepdog or Bobtail is a dog for someone who knows what he or she is dealing with. At first glance, he looks like a huge pom pom. But if not handled properly at a young age he will become agressive towards people or other dogs.  His fluffed up coat makes him look taller but he is only 61 cm (24 inches) high. If  owners are going to show their dogs, they will have to spend hours of work grooming their dogs. But a well handled  well groomed Bobtail is a great and loyal friend.

lapphund
lapphund

Reletivly rare outside his native country Findald, the finnish lapphund is a spitz type dog from the Nordic countries. It can come in a viriaty of shades, colors other than the main tone are seen on the head, chest and tail, giving him an attractive appearance.  But he is a great watchdog or companion dog for just about any family.

Auzzie
This breed reference is dedicated to Willow

The Australian shepherd or 'Auzzie' as he is fondly called is an athletic sort, he needs vigerous excersize but will not pester for it. He originated in the U.S  and Australians claim no credit for him. How he got his name is still a mystery. An all around dog, he is capible of herding and guarding and is quite gifted in agility and obedience. He comes in a veriaty of colors- blue merle, red merle, black or red, all with tan on the head area, and the lower legs.

sheltie
sheltie

The shetland sheepdog or better known sheltie is one of the most popular breeds of dog in Japan, Great Britain and North America. Once called the Dwarf Scotish shepherd, the sheltie is not a dwarf but a miniature. Due to miniatureization, there is an increased risk of fractures to his long, thin leg bones. He is rarely used as a working dog, but will retain herding and guarding instincts.

rhodesian ridgeback
rhodesian ridgeback

The rhodesian ridgeback got his name by the ridge that runs down his back. The ridge is formed by hairs that grows upwards, the opposite direction of the main hair. He was bred somewhere in South America, where he was to protect his master from unwanted vistors and wildcats. He is attached to his owner with a deep bond, but will try consistantly to gain the upper hand; therefore, training should begin at an early age, a badly trained ridgeback in intollerable.

chinese crested
chinese crested

There are two variaties of Chinese crested, the hairless and the powderpuff. The picture shown on the left is a hairless. The Hairless is harder to breed due to toe and teeth abnormalities. If two hairlessess are bred, they will most likely produce powderpuff and have less abnormalites. However if a powderpuff and a hairless are bred, they will most likely produce healthy ospring. He is a great dog but needs to be protected from the heat and cold. Also, the hairless tends to have dry skin.

norwegian elkhound
norwegian elkhound

The norwegian elkhound is the best example of a spitz type breed. He is robust, vigorous and athletic with a sharp voice he likes to use when he sees prey. He was once and still used as a gundog, but has a more houndlike manner and likes to track prey like lynx, wolf and of corse, elk. But he is a good retriever, willing to retrieve game like fox and duck.

Pink box of stuff you should know if you love dogs and if you don't, just read it anyway because you could find something interesting that you might want to bore your friends with. But if you want you can just read it for no good reason in this pink box of good stuff.

NEVER call an animal 'it' if you can help it. It's either a he or she, but please, ask, don't check yourself. Thats just nasty. For some animals you can tell by the coloration, most males are more vivid that the females. The female has to be a more bland color to keep her and her offspring safe, where as the male need special colors to attract a mate.

The smallest breed of dog in the world is the teacup chihuahua. On adverage, the weight of this breed is 2-6 lbs with a hight of 6-9 inches. The smallest dog in the world was a chihuahua named Ondra, however accidently the vets gave this small dog a fatal shot of the wrong medicine causing this small dog to go into a small doggy heaven. The current smallest dog is Big Boss, a yorkshire terrier, second smallest breed.

The largest purebred dog is the Irish wolfhound, however even with it's large size, it's not the heaviest. It is a well proportioned dog even though it may reach 86 cm (34 in)  and has a weight range of about 120 lbs. The Great Dane is the second largest dog, it can come in a varity of colors, brindle, fawn, blue, black, or harliquin (black and white)

You can cross over twenty breeds of dog. For example, lets say the mother is a cross between a rottweiler and a rough collie. and then she... yeah, yu get the picture, with a dog that is part german shepherd , labrador, spaniel dalmatian. Then you take one of the puppies that now is a cross between six breeds, then you get a dog that is a irish wolfhound, great dane, poodle, terrier mix. Put them together and now you have ten breeds. Now you put a corgi, dachshund, chihuahua and pekinese into the picuture and you have fourteen breeds. then you get two dogs, one a malamute, anatolian shepherd, border collie  and the other a golden retriever, Irish shetter, and german pointer. And that puppy that they have has twenty different dogs in him. If you have a dog like this, PLEASE don't name him/her Muttzo.

When you look at your dog or someone elses, it dosen't seem possible that he or she could possibly be realated to a wolf. But it's true, in some breeds, you can see it a bit more, the siberian husky, Alaskan Malamute, norweigan elkhound and many more all share a similar resemblance to the wolf. But all breeds are by some connection, related to this animal. Through years of breeding, we are able to screen out unique characteristics that make each breed special.

There are over 400 different dog breeds. From the tiny chihuahua to the largest wolfhound. Each breed has evolved from one ansestor, wolves. Through carful breeding we are able to screen out the right charateristics that distinguish each breed from the other. The Afgan hound, border collie and german shepherd just some of the hundreds of breeds there are in the canine world.

Some dogs are bred for show and some just for companionship. The pricing for a dog that shows a marked sign for blue ribbons can be noticeably different. The breeder will look for the show points in a puppy to see if he/she has potential in the ring. If it's a westie, the coat must not be anything but white, the ears are pointed, and the tail erect. it dosn't matter if your dog or any dog is a show dog or just a pet, all of them should be treated equal.

All dogs are catigorized into seven groups (eight including miscellainious), sporting, non-sporting , working, terriers, toy and the hound group. All purebred dogs fit in one of these groups. For example, the dalmatian belongs to the non sporting, irish setter to the sporting, beagle to the hound group, westie to the terriers, chihuahua to the to the toys, and the malamute to the working group. Some dogs are put into a catigory all to themselves, these dogs really don't fit in any other place, like the Glen of Imaal terrier.

Most people say 'MY' dog ate an onion' or 'MY dog knows how to use the toilet just like me, and he knows how to flush too.' (actually, that is possible...) But how do you know, behind your back the dog is saying: 'MY human threw up and there were little lumps in it' or 'MY human forgot to flush the toilet and I had to do it for him.' So next time, don't do anything that might embarrass your dog, because he might be saying things you don't want other people or other dogs to know right behind your back...

If you've decided to get a dog, there are three choices: the pet store, a backyard breeder and a perfecional or hobby breeder. The petstore is the worst choice, most stores get their dogs from puppy mills, there they overbreed puppies, usually in unsanitary conditions. A backyard breeder is the next best choice but her line might have hereditary deases. A hobby or Profecional breeder is the best choice, if the breeder is resposnible he/she will have most likley have screened all her dogs from serious problems, and that will leave you with a happy and healthy pet.

No two dogs are alike. That much is easy to say, Some of my breed references refer to other dogs and if they don't match what you think of that breed, all I can say is, I'm truely deeply, honestly, kinda sorry. So if you have a problem and the bios arn't right, Email me. thank you.
