The rottweiler. When most people see these dogs they thing of vicious, barbaric out-of-control animals; but these misunderstood canines can be very loving and affecionate. The rotti has to be trained and be accustomed to other dogs, this should happen at a young age. Occationally when a rottiweiler pants, it almost seems like he's smiling, and perhaps, he is.

The corgi is most known as the pet of the Queen. She currently has four corgis, Pharos, Emma, Linnet and Swift. During this time, some of the Queen's corgis had 'accidents' with Margret's dachshunds producing a breed fondly called 'dorgis'. A cross between corgi and dachshund.

Westies, short for west highland white terrier, are closly related to carin terriers. The only visible difference in the snow white coat they advertize. White is the only color the westie comes in. For show, a black nose is required. These friendly, affectionate dogs are sometimes stobborn, but provide a great family pet. However this dog is not good with a large group of children, the westie tends to get a little over exited and will tend to nip.

The Alaskan Malamute is a strong hansome dog. Because of his large size and need for exercize, this dog is a disaster for city dwellers. Sometimes stobborn, this dog has to be trained at an early age, he doesn't think much about strangers or other dogs. He will need an owner that has the strenth to restrain him and cope with his constant shedding, otherwize a perfect pet.

The Norwich Terrier is a small, energetic dog that is always full of fire. Once used for hunting foxes and badgers, he is now content just to lie on the couch. He is a close relitive of the Norfolk terrier that is more stout, and has folded ears; unlike the Norwich who has sharp, pricked ears. His thick coat is easy to groom and is thorn proof. He is quite rare but will make a perfect household companion for a family or a single person.

Cairn terrier(orists) are hardy little dogs who are full of fire and tenacity. If given the chance they will take over the house and home if not given direct command that they are not the boss. The Cairn has two coats, harsh weatherproof guard hairs protect a woolly undercoat. These dogs rarley shed if combed regularily. Also, like every other breed, no two Cairns are alike.

The Staffordshire bull terrier is a very unique dog with two split personalities; one, a very loving, affecionate animal towards it's family, strangers and even the vet. However when exposed to another dog or other animal it becomes overwhelmed by a desire to destroy. If there is a breed that will defend his house to the end, it's this one. Because of his natural playfullness, he makes a great companion for children or any family.

At first glance, this dog has an aristicratic and exotic look. The borzoi was bred to hunt wolves and it still has kept that preditory instincts. In the house the borzoi is quiet and peaceful, but outside it can become a dangerous preditor; he will attack anything that he thinks is prey. But usually he is aloof and will ignore any human or dog. This dog is only for those who can manage his strenth and speed.

The Old English Sheepdog or Bobtail is a dog for someone who knows what he or she is dealing with. At first glance, he looks like a huge pom pom. But if not handled properly at a young age he will become agressive towards people or other dogs. His fluffed up coat makes him look taller but he is only 61 cm (24 inches) high. If owners are going to show their dogs, they will have to spend hours of work grooming their dogs. But a well handled well groomed Bobtail is a great and loyal friend.

Reletivly rare outside his native country Findald, the finnish lapphund is a spitz type dog from the Nordic countries. He is an extremely hansome dog with wide pricked ears, a bright expression and tail, carried over the back. He has a corse topcoat that requires fairly demanding amount of grooming. It can come in a viriaty of shades, colors other than the main tone are seen on the head, chest and tail, giving him an attractive appearance. But he is a great watchdog or companion dog for just about any family.

The Australian shepherd or 'Auzzie' as he is fondly called is an athletic sort, he needs vigerous excersize but will not pester for it. He originated in the U.S and Australians claim no credit for him. How he got his name is still a mystery. An all around dog, he is capible of herding and guarding and is quite gifted in agility and obedience. He comes in a veriaty of colors- blue merle, red merle, black or red, all with tan on the head area, and the lower legs.

The shetland sheepdog or better known sheltie is one of the most popular breeds of dog in Japan, Great Britain and North America. Once called the Dwarf Scotish shepherd, the sheltie is not a dwarf but a miniature. Due to miniatureization, there is an increased risk of fractures to his long, thin leg bones. He is rarely used as a working dog, but will retain herding and guarding instincts.

The rhodesian ridgeback got his name by the ridge that runs down his back. The ridge is formed by hairs that grows upwards, the opposite direction of the main hair. He was bred somewhere in South America, where he was to protect his master from unwanted vistors and wildcats. He is attached to his owner with a deep bond, but will try consistantly to gain the upper hand; therefore, training should begin at an early age, a badly trained ridgeback in intollerable.

There are two variaties of Chinese crested, the hairless and the powderpuff. The picture shown on the left is a hairless. The Hairless is harder to breed due to toe and teeth abnormalities. If two hairlessess are bred, they will most likely produce powderpuff and have less abnormalites. However if a powderpuff and a hairless are bred, they will most likely produce healthy ospring. He is a great dog but needs to be protected from the heat and cold. Also, the hairless tends to have dry skin.

The norwegian elkhound is the best example of a spitz type breed. He is robust, vigorous and athletic with a sharp voice he likes to use when he sees prey. He was once and still used as a gundog, but has a more houndlike manner and likes to track prey like lynx, wolf and of corse, elk. But he is a good retriever, willing to retrieve game like fox and duck.
